Digitally restored vector portrait of General Joseph Wheeler. General Joseph Wheeler was a military commander for the United States and the Confederate States of America. Wheeler was wounded three times while commanding Confederate Cavalry troops during the American Civil War. After the Civil War he served in Congress as a Representative from Alabama. During the Spanish-American War, Wheeler volunteered and was appointed major general of volunteers by President McKinley.
