Late 15th century marble-inlay mosaic of Justice, one of the four Cardinal Virtues, along with Prudence, Temperance, and Fortitude, that are portrayed in the marble pavement of the interior of the Cathedral of Siena. The symbol for justice is often a woman holding a sword and scales, but here she is holding a sword and a globe. Plato identified the four cardinal virtues in the 4th century BC in the Protagoras, later they became part of the Christian tradition.
