Three generations listening to a reading from the family Bible, c1800. Grandparents, parents and two children sit at the table, and a baby lies in a basketwork cradle. Washing hangs on a clothes-horse in front of fire. The baby and small girl wear bonnets, the women wear mob caps. A lattice casement window with diamond leaded panes cut from crown glass sheds light on the scene.
