A small srmip of trees characterizwl by larj;t> tleciduons leaves and especiallyby their uiiiiute llowers, borne in closely packed, si)lierical or ball-like beads,attached to a thread-like, pendulous stem. From one to half a dozen of theseball-like, greenish clusters are produced on a stem. The male and female flowers(each iu ball-like clusters) occur ou different parts of the same tree, usually ondifferent parts of the same branch. The male clusters aie smaller (about one-third of an inch iu diameter) than the female heads (about one-half inch indiameter).
