A Tibetan man sits on a bicycle in front of the Potala Palace in downtown Lhasa, Tibet. The Potala Palace was the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled the capital for India in 1959. First built in the 7th century, the palace underwent its modern reconstruction in 1645 and presently has over 1,000 rooms.
