The cracks in these cases generallyoccur nearly the whole length of the plate, and to repair themyou must proceed as follows : Having taken off the belly, thefull extent of the crack will become visible, and it will be foundthat the wood at the point from which the crack seems to startaway on either side has worked thin, so that besides mending thecrack, the wood must here be replaced by careful crack must first be mended by pressing it slightly open, andrunning a streak of clear glue down it in the ordinary manner,with an old knife or thin strip of wood ; when you are sure.
