A woman from the Mental Health Resistance Network hands over a l;etter to workers at Bromley Job Centre in the London Borough of Bromley where an incredible number of 7525 people have had their benefits stopped for largely trivial reasons under the current sanctions regime, leading to hardship unacceptable in any civilised country. Bromley had the second highest sanctions rate in London with a total of 7524 in 2012-4, including many claimants denied benefits for the maximum allowed length of three years. Later we heard that the letter had gone to the centre manager, but workers at the centre were not going to be allowed to read it. The protest by Bromley & Croydon DPAC, supported by other groups including the Mental Health Resistance Network, Bromley Cuts Concern, Class War and local trade unionists, was part of a nationwide week of action, highlighting the cumulative impact of the cuts on disabled people as the paralympic games are taking place in RIo.
