Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa (1486-1535), German alchemist. Also known as Agrippa von Nettesheim, he studied theology, philosophy, law and medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany. His works include the three-volume 'De Occulta Philosphia' (1533) on western magic and esoteric traditions. The Latin caption at bottom refers to his birthplace of Cologne (Colon) in Germany, and to a death year of 1538. It also refers to his service (imperial consul) to the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. The Latin form of his name is across top. The borders include butterflies, flowers and a book in bound covers.
