During the winterof 1898 he read law with the firm of Smith and Savage of Wilmington, where he wasable to know not only the theory but to observe the practice; he was admitted to thebar in the spring of the same year and immediately set about the practice of the fall of 1899 he was chosen by the Republican party to represent Clinton cnuntyin the 74th General Assembly and in 1901 he was re-elected by an increased ma-jority as a member of the 75th General Assembly. (434). MR. HOWEY, OF Cuyahoga County. Aaron J. Howey, Democrat, one of the Representatives from Cuyahoga county,was bom in Columbia^ Lorain county, November 17, 1836; lived with his parents oria farm, but during the winters attended Baldwin University. In 1862 he enlisted inthe 6th Independent Company of Ohio Sharpshooters and served until honorablydischarged. In the spring of 1876 he left his farm and moved to Berea. Has servedfour terms as Township Assessor six years, as village councilman six years, as trusteeof Baldwin University and at present is serving his second term as townshiptrustee. In all of his elections he has run far ahead of the other candidates on histicket. Mr. Howey was reared in the Democratic faith, and has never failed to main-tain Democratic doctrines or to support the candidates of that party.
