Lewis Victor Heilbrunn (1892-1959), US physiologist. Heilbrunn taught physiology at the University of Pennsylvania from 1929 until his death 30 years later. He published several influential textbooks on physiology, including 'An Outline of General Physiology' (1937). His research on protoplasm culminated in 'The Dynamics of Living Protoplasm' (1956). He carried out many experiments and studies at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA, and was a trustee of the laboratory from 1931. Photographed at the MBL.
