In times past, in some parts of the coun-try, the beautification of structures of thistype was neglected and in many caseswhen it was attempted the efforts in thisdirection yielded a superficial and inci-dental mass of ginger bread which couldhave no pleasing offset upon the structurein general. With the adoption of careful architec-tural study of the proper proportion of themasses and detail, this idea has given wayto an appreciation of the value of design.
