Turkey, Priene, ancient theater

Priene is situated to the west of Gullubahce village. The theater was built in the Hellenistic period, and although some additions were made in Roman times, the main plan was not upset. In the middle of the five seats for the VIPs around the orchestra was an altar dedicated to Dionysus (Bacchus). The auditorium could accommodate 5,000 spectators. There were six staircases. The skene was a two-storyed building. It had three rooms, that are still visible today, and was covered with a wooden roof. Only the lower storey survives.
