Germany also boasts many interesting fragments,but in the East, especially at Baalbec and Palmyra,are the remains of temples whose splendor is un-equaled. Yet they are not in the highest style ofart, but show the influence of Orientalism in super-abundance of ornament, and whimsical and fan-tastic deviations from rules considered inviolablein the ^M ^^m CHAPTER Xiri.
