Every year in the day of Ashura a huge procession takes place in the streets of Dhaka. Thousands of Shia'a muslims gather to participate in the procession. They walk bare footed as they consider it a holy ground during the procession. They also show repentance for the death of Imam Hussain by self-hitting themselves with sharp blades. Muharram is the first month of the Islamic calendar. The tenth day of Muharram is the Day of Ashura. It is the day of remembrance and commemoration of the death of Husayn ibn Ali, for Shia Muslims. Shi’a community organise parades flagellate themselves and beat their chest to express their Mourning of Muharram on the Day Of Ashura in Dhaka, Bangladesh on 1st October 2017.
