New Zealand's largest known living kauri tree, Tane Mahuta, is said to be over 2,000 years old and the name means Lord of the Forest in Maori. It is found in the Waipoua Forest which is part of the largest remaining tract of native forest in the Northland Region on the North Island of New Zealand.
