FrG. 1.—Prism Light, To accomplish this under the varied conditions where windowsopen on a wide or a narrow street, facing low or lofty build-ings, a variety of prisms are necessary, and success in gettingdesired results depends on the proper calculation of thedegree of refraction needed and the proper installation of aprism liaving a corresponding refracting angle. This, ofcourse, implies scientific treatment, and we understand thatthe necessary data were obtained only after a long series ofcarefnl and expensive experiments. The practical utilisation of these prisms has been workedout in connection with a system of electro-glazing, the ordi-nary lead glazing not being considered strong enough to sup-port prisms in a window where the action of the wind andweather would affect them. The prisms, after being groundto a temjilet, are laid in a frame with a small ribbon of. Fig. 2.—Pi£ inu 6;ii1.\\. copper surrounding each prism. The whole sheet is im-mersed in an electric bath, and cemented together with adeposit of copper by a new patent electrolytic process. Theobject is to make a window strong and elastic, water andweather tiglit, and the wholo construction durable, strongand neat, the metal network being so very small as to shutout a minimum amount of light. The completed frame ofprism lights is commonly inserted in the transom frame orwindow sash in place of the sheet of plate-glass. Where thewindow frame is set under a deep reveal, or whcro the lightfrom the sky is obstructed by very high buildings oppoailothe premises to be lighted, it may be necessary to Bet the A MUNICIPAL FAMILY HOME AT GLASGOW.
