Anti Mining Slogans Inscribed on the Mountains Surrounding the Main Square of Cajamarca City in Peru
The Conga mine belongs to Newmont Mining Corp and is a huge opencast goldmine in the Andes mountains near the city of Cajamarca Peru. There have been massive protests over the last few years against the mine by locals. One of the issues is the massive shortage of water to homes in the city while the mine enjoys the immense amount of water it requires to operate. The anti-mining sentiment can be seen written on the hillsides above the city's rooftops.
