Facial angle theory of Petrus Camper, illustration. Dutch anatomist Petrus Camper (1722-1789) proposed a theory of facial angles. He drew lines to show the differences between humans and other humans, and between humans and other primates, looking at the slope of the forehead and the protrusion of the chin. He determined that people from Africa and Asia had different facial angles to people from Europe. His results would come to be used as a form of scientific racism. This page is from Camper's 'Verhandeling' (1791).
