Designed in form of hanging panel. Attop of deep blue, yellow, red and white, and scepter-headfringe, in yellow, with two long hangers in white with blueornament. Side borders deep blue and while dots, enclos-ing a band of symbols, fish and fungus, and lower crestedwaves of rock in blue, brown and white. Light butt fieldfilled with symbolical flowers and foliage in shades of blue,green, brown and white. An unusual feature is a broadcinnabar-red band across center of carpet. Length, 10 (ret (i inrhet; width, 9 feel 5 inehei. Third Afternoon. 597—Large Ancient Chinese Rig (Koikj IIsi) Subdued Imperial-yellow field, with highly conventionalizedsprays of lotus-motif design with one flower to each decorations, in dark brown and in blue, though ap-parently isolated, are really linked together by similar de-signs in lighter and fainter colors of yellow, pearly-grayand brown with swastika border, outside which runs a deepand elaborate border of diagonal and geometrical patternsin broad lines of blue and brown intermingled with lightertones of same colors. The fine and interesting contrasts ofdeep colors combined with the simple and flowing lines ofdecoration make an attractive ensemble, with somewhat of a Persian effect.
