Nelson Town-ship, Lee County, was born in Hanover, Ger-many, August 16, 1836, son of Peter and Mar-tha (Becker) Meppen; emigrated to Americain 1863, and coming directly to Lee County,III., worked for a time in Palmyra Township,after which he removed to Nelson Township,where he has since resided. January 21. 1875,. WILLIAM MEPPEN. he was married to Wilhelmina Brauer. daugh-ter of Louis and Louise (Toel) Brauer, whocame from Germany to the United States inthe early 40s. Mr. and Mrs. Meppen are theparents of seven children, viz.: Mabel (de-ceased), Martha Lucy H., Louis Wil-liam H., Arthur J., and Minnie Alice. served as Highway Commissioner ofhis township nine years.
