Dr. Taylor says the oak carvingat Hornby affords the best example of any remaining /;; situ in the , over the hall, is the drawing-room, wainscotted nearly to theceiling, which is plaster work coloured in red and gold, and crossed bymoulded ribs ; it is slightly arched, having a large centre piece embossedwith vine leaves and bunches of grapes, from which probably once hunga candelabra. These embossed plaster ceilings seem to have beencharacteristic of the reign of Elizabeth ; Dr. Taylor mentions several. DOORWAY AT HORNBY HALL.
