In regardto injuries received not in action, but due to the perform-ance of mUitaiy duty, the Army Coiuscil may giant a peu-siou if the injury is penmanent and serious, or a grsAuityif the injury, though severe, do^s not justify the grantof a pension. The pensions for wounds received in. and a,lIowances are £80 and ilS, ^£60 and £12 10s., £40and £10. SledicaJ officers In the navy Jo not ordinarily receiveany special j)ensioa for wmmds received in action orduring the performance of their ordinary duties, but theyare exempted by such a wound from the rules respectingthe length of service entitling them to a pension or-gratuity. Then- widows and children, however, receivegrants of the same kind as those aheady described. Thusthe wife of a medical man tempo-raiily employed in tJie navy as asurgeon would be entitled to a pen-sion of £80 per annum if he werakilled in action, and to an ahowauceof from £12 to £16 for each of herchildren up to the age of 18 in thacase of boys and 21 in the case oi:girls: while, if her husband lost hiylife through the act of the enemj;in any other fashion, her pensionwould be i65 per annum, and thegrants for each of her childrenfrom £10 to £14.
