HONOLULU (Dec. 7, 2021) — The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Daniel Inouye (DDG 118) is moored at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, Dec. 7, 2021, a day before it’s commissioning ceremony. Inouye’s namesake, the late Senator Daniel Inouye, was a senator from Hawaii who served in congress from 1962 until his death in 2012. During World War II, Inouye served in the Army’s 442nd Regimental Combat Team, one of the most decorated military units in history; for his heroism, he was awarded the Medal of Honor.
