CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - Friday 22 August 2014, Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba, (South African national soccer coach), Dr Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN (United Nations) Women from New York and former South African Deputy President, Patricia De Lille, Executive Mayor of Cape Town and Owen Da Gama (assistant national coach) in an impromptu meeting during the announcement that the City of Cape Town will join the United Nations Women Safe Cities Global Initiative designed to assist local authorities in making cities safer for women and girls. Cape Town is the first city in southern Africa to join the UN Women Safe Cities Global Initiative, and looks forward to learning from and sharing its experiences with other international cities and African counterparts in Kigali and Nairobi.
