Probably commissioned by the local arts patron Daniel Wadsworth, this painting depicts the colonial mansion of the Wyllys Family (torn down around 1830) and the famous Charter Oak in Hartford, Connecticut. Note the gentelman tugging at a twig (a relic hunter). There is another painting by Francis of the Charter Oak, also dated 1818, lacking the mansion but including the little gentleman. 1818.
