It will be noticed that in this Street Directory the names of the streets are set downin alphabetical order, giving the course which they run, according, as mar as possible,to the points of the compass, and enumerating all streets which cross the same in theorder in which they occur. The streets in the city were renumbered in 1868, and the fol-lowing method was adopted, to wit: From the starting point of the street, measuringalong the line of the street, 20 feet ; then making No. 1 to the right-hand side, and No. 2to the left-hand side, and so on, each 20 feet, whether there be a building or a vacancy ora street crossing.
