The smallest proportion of operators was under 25 years old. The percentages of operators under 54 years old continued to fail during the 1976 to 1991 period. In contrast, the older groups showed consistent increases; Table 9. As the graph shows, the average age of farm operators increased slightly from 47 years in 1976 to 49 years (for first farm operator) In 1991. The average age of all operators was in 1991.
