St Paul's Anglican Church and graveyard and the old town of Trinity, Newfoundland
The harbour in the old town of Trinity is one of the largest on the east coast of Newfoundand and has been used by fishing ships since it was discover in 1501 by a Portuguese explorer. It has had a permenant settlement the early 1600s. The town has a number of Registered Heritage Stuctures and is a great place to see historic colourful old wooden salt box houses, the Newfoundland folk architecture. The movie 'The Shipping News' was filmed here. St Paul's Anglican Church is an excellent example of a wooden Gothic Revival church. The current church was built in 1894 on site of the original 1730 church by the shores of Trinity harbour, Newfoundland. The first Anglican rector, the Rev. Robert Killpatrick, was sent to Trinity as a missionary by the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in 1729. It is one of many Registered Heritage Buildings in the old historic town of Trinty.
