Pont du Gard, bridge over the River Gardon, Provence, France.

Pont du Gard was built in the first century AD to carry water across the Gardon valley. It was part of a 50km long aqueduct which took water from Uzes to Nimes, delivering 5 million gallons of water daily. Constructed entirely without the use of mortar. From the fourth century it became neglected and by the ninth century was unusable. From the Middle Ages to the 19th century it was used a a bridge to carry foot traffic. Added to list of Unesco world heritage site in 1985.
