In thissituation he assiduously applied to the duties ofa parochial minister, and recovered to thechurch by his controversial skill many who hadgone over to the opinions of the sectaries. Healso consulted his own improvement by makingan annual visit to Oxford of two months, for thesake of consulting the public libraries of theuniversity. He married a clergymans daugh-ter in 1658, who proved an excellent wife, andpassed with him above fiftv years in great har-mony.
