PACIFIC OCEAN – Marines with the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s Aviation Combat Element, Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 161 (Reinforced), conduct preflight checks on an MV-22B Osprey before takeoff for night qualification flights aboard amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), July 10, 2017. Ospreys, with long-range capabilities, are used to carry supplies and Marines from ship to shore when needed. Aerial transportation enables the MEU the flexibility to transport personnel and equipment ashore operate in any environment.
