JULES SIMON (JULES-FRANÇOIS SWITZERLAND, SAID), French writer and statesman, born in Lorient in 1814., Representative of the people in 1848, he was dismissed from his university functions, after the coup d'etat of 1851 Deputy in 1863, he was re-elected in 1869, and became a member of the government of national defense after September 4, 1870, then Minister of Public Instruction under Thiers. He left the ministry in 1873, returned to it in December 1876, retired on May 16, 1877, then again played an important role under Grévy. He died in 1796. He always remained
