Fishing boats moored in Camber Docks with the Cathedral Tower in the background at Old Portsmouth, Hampshire, England, United Kingdom, EU

Commercial ships have been landing goods at the town that grew up around the Camber Docks since the owner of a fleet of merchant ships, Jean de Gisors, decided in approximately 1180, that the sheltered harbour at the Camber was the ideal place to start a town from which he could trade with Normandy. Camber Quay, Old Portsmouth is home to Portsmouth's inshore fishing fleet - some 20 to 30 vessels landing fresh fish and shellfish on a daily basis. A wide variety of fresh and frozen fish and live or cooked shellfish is available from fish outlets on the quaysides.
