Swarm bee research, Appledore Island, Maine.

Thomas Seeley of Cornell University studying swarming bee behavior on Appledore Island, Maine. The swarm has broken off from the main hive and is deciding on a new nest site. The marked bees are scouts that go out and find a site and then do a waggle dance to alert other bees of the best site. He is listening for a high pitched sound that indicates the bees are about to swarm. When the bees are swarming they rarely sting.
