Welsh language theatre studies students performing a multimedia drama at Aberystwyth university, Wales UK On 8th September 1936, three highly respected Welshmen - the writer and academic Saunders Lewis, the writer and teacher D. J. Williams and the Baptist minister Lewis Valentine - presented themselves at Pwllheli Police Station at , confessing to an act of arson. They had set fire to the buildings of the 'bombing school' which was then being established at RAF Penrhos on the Llŷn peninsula, on the site of a historically significant farmhouse, Penyberth. They were tried for their action on 13th October at Caernarfon assizes. The jury failed to reach a verdict. 5:7 is a multimedia show, loosely based around the practices of the Wooster Group, which speculates about the jury's discussion and its failure - or refusal - to convict 'the three'. The central 45-minute text has been specially written for the production by the award-winning writer and lifelong Welsh language campaigner Angharad Tomos. The production places the act of arson in the wider context of the events of 1936, and in relation to questions of public and individual political responsibility, of moral law against the law of the land.
