Photograph by David Coleman. The Wheel at Icon Park, formerly known as the Orlando Eye, is a prominent feature of Orlando's skyline and a major attraction in the city's entertainment district. Standing 400 feet (122 meters) tall, it is the tallest observation wheel on the East Coast of the United States. The wheel opened in April 2015 as part of the I-Drive 360 complex, which was later rebranded as Icon Park. The Wheel features 30 air-conditioned, fully enclosed capsules that can each accommodate up to 15 passengers. A complete revolution takes about 22 minutes, offering riders expansive views of Orlando's urban landscape, nearby theme parks, and on clear days, even Cape Canaveral on the coast. The wheel is equipped with 64,000 LED lights that can be programmed to create dazzling light shows, making it a spectacular sight both day and night. Icon Park, located on International Drive (commonly known as I-Drive), is a 20-acre entertainment complex that houses various attractions, restaurants, and shops. In addition to The Wheel, the park features other popular attractions such as Madame Tussauds wax museum, SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium, and the Orlando Starflyer, the world's tallest swing ride. The area surrounding Icon Park is a hub of tourist activity in Orlando, with numerous hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues lining International Drive. This location places The Wheel at the heart of Orlando's tourism corridor, making it not only a popular ride but also a recognizable landmark that has become synonymous with the city's nighttime skyline. The wheel's striking appearance when lit up at night has made it a favorite subject for photographers and a must-see attraction for visitors to Orlando.
