A Halifax shipment of bright clean deals of fair specification was recently disposed of at Liverpool at £7 2s. 6d. per standard ex. quay; but, apart from this, some thousands of stand- ards of St. John deals, largely 7, 8, and 9 x 3, have changed hands at £7 2s. 6d. to £7 5s. West Coast. From these results it will be apparent that only wide average 1st class shipments, including 20 to 30 per cent, of 11x3 deals, can have any chance, even with existing depressed freights, in bringing out anything like £6 Narrow widths, especially 7x3, are a heavy drug on the West Coast, and are being freely sold in retail quantities at £6 15s. to £7 per standard ex quay and yard. Wilh no closed season and con- stant steamer arrivals, stocks are quite sufficient. A marked decline in the build- ing trade, coupled with a fear-and-trem- bling policy amongst shipowners, pro- hibits the slightest chance of improvement in values within a measurable ; TIMBER LIMIT TRANSACTIONS. The Kathbun Company, of Deseronio, Out., are announced to. have sold 10 A. Barnet, of Renfrew, a timber limit situated near Grand Lake, on the Upper Ottawa river.
