Among the reeds growing in the water you can see a huge variety of aquatic birds during the safari camp in Eagle Island Camp by Orient Express , outside the Moremi Game Reserve in Botswana. With an area of approximately 3,900 square km, this reserve was created in 1960 to protect the wildlife -rich part of the Okavango Delta . In 2008, the tourism fair in the prestigious Association of Travel and Tourism South Africa, Indaba , was voted as "the best wildlife reserve in Africa." It is the first reserve in Africa created by local residents. The people of Ngamiland Batawana , led by Mrs. Moremi , wife of the late Chief Moremi III , concerned about the rapid extinction of wildlife on their land, mainly due to over-hunting , made the wise decision to proclaim as Moremi Reserve in 1963 , becoming , in the only officially protected area of the Okavango Delta , acquiring a great scientific , environmental and conservation importance and as a result , is classified as one of the finest reserves in Africa , and even possibly world. The reserve has a split personality , one side has large areas of land elevations amid marshy tracts . Located in the central and eastern part of the Okavango , Moremi includes language that encompasses the northeastern part of the Reserve, and Chief's Island , in the inner Delta , boasting of being one of the richest and most diverse ecosystems in Africa , resulting in a spectacular bird watching, over 400 species of birds, some migratory and other endangered species , and animal watching, including all carnivorous and herbivorous species in the region in their natural habitat. The Black and White rhinos were recently reintroduced to the reserve, thereby making it a destination to find the Big Five
