The nucleus of all gland cells is covered with anenvelope, and the protoplasm of some kinds is alsosurrounded by the same, while others are devoid ofcovering, and hence called membraneless. Glands are composed of cells inall stages of form-ation. The new young cells, engaged in multipli-cation, are situated nearest the inclosing membrane ;then come the half-grown cells which have movedforward as they grew ; and finally the oldest andripest ones, full as they can hold, crowd upon theducts, their term of life completed, their work fin-ished. Their walls burst, and the cells are no moreforever. They pour into the duct, tipped out protoplasm(now called secretion) and broken envelopes in a heap (82). TRUE MANHOOD. g3 together. The next oldest cells then crowd iorwardand in their turn meet the same fate. The Salivary Glands. There are six of these placed in the flesh aroundthe mouth ; three on each side.
