As no oixlinary pulleys were obtain-able a telegram was sent to Washington that they couldnot get any ordinary pulleys but they could get a quan-tity of split pulleys. Whereupon a prompt reply wassent from the supreme ones at Washington: Ship thesplit pulleys, if they are not too badly split.
