On account of his researchesin the scientific field, he was elected to the Academicdes Inscriptions et Belles-Lettres in 1839. Whilepursuing his scientific studies, he was greatly inter-ested in politics. In 1831, having been introduced toArmand Carrel, he had become a regular contributor tothe newspaper Le National and retained that posi-tion up to the Revolution of 1848.
