Burning incense sticks at Jiming Temple, a Buddhist temple in the city of Nanjing, in Jiangsu province, China.

In recent years, loosening of controls by the Communist authorities has allowed religion to undergo a resurgence, including one of the country's traditional religions, Buddhism. Many (though not all) temples have been restored, and are once again busy with people who are not just curious tourists, but who are genuinely intent on prayer or worship (such as through the burning of incense sticks). This illustrated in this image of worshippers making offerings of incense sticks at the restored 500-year-old Jiming Temple, in the city of Nanjing, Jiangsu province, China.
