Historical marker at Bob's Oil Well, a now-closed gas station topped with a metal oil derrick in Matador in the Texas Panhandle

Bob's Oil Well, a now-closed gas station topped with a metal oil derrick in the remote Texas Panhandle town of Matador on US Highway 70. The gas station, grocery and cafe, opened in the early 1930s. A relic of the golden age of roadside attractions in the 1940s, it now has a Texas Historical Marker and is on a list of Texas endangered buildings, and money is being raised to restore the compound.
