A wheellock rifle, German, circa 1680. Octagonal, slightly swamped barrel with six groove rifling in 12 mm calibre. Dovetailed, iron sights. "FP" is engraved on the breech. The wheellock (lightly pitted) has engraved and chiselled floral decoration. The lock has a half interior wheel. Double set trigger (hair trigger shortened) has a trigger guard with finger rests. The walnut full stock is carved with hunting and floral themes, and has horn inlays, thimbles, and nose cap. "JHG" is inscribed on the (replacement?) patch box lid.
