View E of Dun Telve Iron Age broch tower, Glenelg, Scotland, UK, showing the entrance passage & part of the wall still standing up to high: the characteristic inward slope (batter) of the outer wall (L) gives the broch a 'cooling-tower' shape. The entrance passage has a guard cell & a check & a draw-bar slot to secure a door. A solid base & two skins of drystone walling, tied together by flat lintel slabs forming level galleries between the walls, enclose a circular inner court nearly 10m across. Dun Telve is built on the valley floor amongst good farmland near the river. Large stone structures outside the tower are considered to be more modern than the broch.
