Gustavianum building Uppsala University, Sweden, Scandinavia. Old Swedish building; Scandinavian person with bicycle on cobbled street; historic

Formerly the main building of Uppsala University, this building now houses a popular science museum, and showcases some of the work of the university. One of the highlights is the theatrum anatomicum (anatomical theatre) under the cupola, an amphitheatre where medical students used to watch human dissections as part of their anatomy lessons. Most of the building dates from the 1620s, with the cupola being added by Olof (Olaus) Rudbeck in 1662-3 and the building further reconstructions by Carl Hårleman in the 18th century. The building is named after King Gustavus Adolphus (Gustav II Adolf, Gustavus Adolphus Magnus, Gustavus the Great) who financed it.
