The incident happened just after this morning (26th October) involving a council contractor pickup truck and a white scooter. The man was rushed to hospital by land ambulance following the collision. Eastern Road was closed for several hours while investigation work was carried out at the scene. The 20-year-old from Portsmouth area sadly died in hospital following his injuries. Appealing from the scene, Inspector Darren Ord from the Eastern Division Roads Policing for Hampshire Constabulary based at Havant, said that he would be interested in speaking to witnesses who may have seen the collision. He said, "I would appeal to drivers who may have witnessed the collision between the yellow truck and scooter who have not yet made themselves known to us to contact us. I am particularly interested in speaking to drivers who may have seen the vehicles prior to the collision." He also said that he would like to ask drivers to come forward if they had captured it on their in-car camera. Eastern Road was closed at the height of rush hour for four hours while police investigated the collision. Police questioned the driver of the pickup truck for his first account following the incident. A spokesman for South Coast Ambulance Service said: ‘We were called to a medical emergency in East Shore Road just after this morning. We sent an ambulance and a rapid response paramedic to the scene. ©UKNIP
