With its H2 training track, Open Grid Europe will in future train engineers and tradesmen to become experts in the use of hydrogen in the long-distance gas network. The OGE compressor station in Werne is the central hub in the German natural gas network. At around 25 billion cubic meters per year, around a quarter of the natural gas consumed in Germany flows through the Werne compressor station. The natural gas flows into the station from northern Germany, the North Sea and the Netherlands via five large input pipelines. After the gas has been purified, it is compressed by eleven compressors driven by gas turbines with a total power of about 160,000 kW. With outlet pressures of up to 100 bar, the gas flows leave the station via eight outlet pipelines and are distributed throughout Germany in all directions.
