Themolars, or grinders, are twelve in the temporary set, three ineach side of each jaw; twenty-four in the permanent set, six oneach side, above and below; they are numbered from front back-wards, and, like the incisors, those of the upper jaw are thelarger. The horse may have supplementary molars, or wolfteeth; these are small and placed one on each side of the jaw,anterior to the first molars; they are usually shed with the milkteeth. INDICATIONS OF AGE. The horses age may be determined with considerable exact-ness by studying the peculiarities which characterize the teeth.
