James Stuart Blackton (1875-1941), UK-US film producer, with two of his children, Charles (left) and Violet (right). Blackton co-founded Vitagraph Studios in 1897. He directed many silent films, and was a pioneer of the use of animated sequences, directing and starring in 'The Enchanted Drawing' (1900). Blackton was married four times and had four chidren (two sons and two daughters). His children were: Violet Virginia Blackton (1910-1965), Marian Blackton Trimble, J. Stuart Blackton Jr., and Charles Stuart Blackton (1914-2007). Both Charles and Violet were child actors. This photograph is from the Bain News Service, one of the USA's earliest news picture libraries.
